My name is Bryan from Australia. I would like to replace my mountain bike and am looking for folding bike. After did some research, I found Strida SX would be my next bike. And I still have some questions in my mind, therefore I hope I can get some ideas to answer my concern.
I am short, and my height is 158cm. I am not sure Strida SX is suitable for me? And also, I am curious that is the Quick Release saddle essential? or I can upgrade some parts after I familiar with Strida SX?
Because Strida models in Australia is limited, does anybody get experience purchasing Strida from overseas and how about warranty?
Welcome to the Strider forum, I’m still a newbie too.
I upgraded my LT to an 18-inch rear wheelset, equivalent to the SX.
I’m 168cm tall, about 10cm taller than you, but I have an old-fashioned Asian build, so my legs are short.
The seat height adjustment is on the low side, but there’s still some room to maneuver.
The SX is designed for riders 160cm and up, but if you have average leg length, you should be fine.
However, If possible, I recommend test riding an SX at a shop or with a friend.
If you don’t have a reason to frequently change the saddle position, such as sharing the bike with family, I don’t think a quick release is that important.
Mining Cycle’s distributor in Japan changes frequently, there are no decent dealerships, and almost all local bike shops refuse to provide maintenance, so I do it myself.
For parts, I import them privately from Taiwan rather than through expensive and unstable dealerships.
If you can import parts privately into Australia and Taiwan cheaply (and are willing to do so), I recommend doing so.
Thank you for answering my concern. You are right that the maintenance is another thing I am figuring out. In Australia, there is only one distributor, and it is far, far away from my place. I’m looking for local bike shops that are willing to help. Otherwise, I would unlock another personal skill - maintain a folding bike.
Here in Austria, sad to say that, many bike shops are not willing to learn nowadays. I’d recommend to search for small shops with old owners - these are the people who might accept the challenge
Well, for that, I mean you’re totally right here
Regarding QRS system - as Doranine correctly said, it is a convenient thing if you intend to share your bike regularly with persons of (not too) different body length. Certainly not mandantory for single person use.
With lightspeed, you inhaled the forum content and mixed it with your, obviously, huge amount of skills, knowledge and understanding. With a snap of your fingers you present things where I am literally out of words.
It’s only been about three months since I joined the forum, but time flies.
Everyone wants to give their all to something they’re passionate about, right?
I’d like to continue working hard in the future.
Bryan san,
I hope so,
Just a thought, but if you buy an SX and the saddle height just doesn’t suit your height or leg length, you could swap out the STRiDA LT 's optional 16-inch spoke wheel set, which makes it equivalent to the STRiDA 5.0 wheels.
There aren’t as many, but you’d actually have a wider range of tire options than with 18-inch tires.
As far as I know, there are only two types of 18-inch tires available for purchase at the moment…
One of them is a Schwalbe Kojak slick tire suitable for smooth paved roads, and the other is an Innova tire with grooves that comes standard on the SX and is suitable for a relatively wide range of road surfaces.
I reckon I would pick Strida 5.0, and I don’t want to take the risk. As I am a Taiwanese living in Australia, I would like to purchase Strida 5.0 from Taiwan and more colours I can choose.
