Broken spokes

Some measurements of spoke tension from new 18" wheelset - as a warning.
Sure, it is better than 16" one, because 18" rims are double-walled and there are more spokes, but wheels are badly built.

Front wheel, right side, outbound spokes (measured with park tool tm-1 tensometer):
120Kgf (25 on the tensometer scale)
80Kgf
58Kgf
96Kgf
out of chart, < 50Kgf (15 on the tensometer scale)
out of chart, even less than previous one (13 on the scale )
out of chart (10 on the scale)
out of chart (11 on the scale)
53Kgf (17 on the scale)

General recommendation is to have spokes uniformly tightened for every side of the wheel, and tightened to no less than 100Kgf. This wheel fails both criteria.

Thanks one_half_3544!

As you can see above did Ming notice the complaint, however it’s not sure if they did anything further…

Of course, it might be that your wheels were built before March…
…but also it could be possible that the warning was ignored. :unamused:

A few weeks ago my friend Mike added the Strida to his folding bike store offering - for first a SX and a LT.
Naturally we’ve checked together the spoke tensions of the SX by sound method - the result was very good, no loose spokes were found.
Maybe this SX is actually newer and the wheels are better now?
We don’t know…

As far I know, it would not be possible to build wheels with exactly equal spoke tensions, such wheels would not run true.
But it does work with relatively similar spoke tensions.
